Observe a child between the ages of 6 months and 54 months for 60 minutes. (You may not observe a child in your classroom! Your observation must take place when you are not working with the child.) Take running objective notes of everything the child does, including the caregivers interactions, all while being as detailed as possible. Students will turn in their observation notes along with a written paper.
Part I: Observation
Observe a child 6 months to 54 months along with the caregivers interactions. Record a 60-minute running record. The child must be awake, actively engaged in play, and indoors for at least half the observation. (The child may not be engaged in watching television or using the computer nor should s/he be at circle time.)
Part II: Assessment
Use the data collected to assess the Childs' development in each area noted. Identify patterns and trends and differences. Describe strengths and weaknesses. Identify the areas where aid in development is needed.
Part III: Application of Child Guidance Strategies
List the child guidance strategies and processes you plan to use and explain how you will use them to aid the Childs' development in areas that were identified.
Analyze your observation to report on the Childs' physical, cognitive, language, and emotional development in a minimum of a 3-page written report.
